If ever you felt the need to do something for charity Saturday's the day to do it.
The Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life steps out again at Cooks Gardens, starting at 11.30 and runs for 24 hours. The society netted $89,000 last year. Let's see if we can push that out to six figures.
It's going to be a mainly fine day and 18c. Perfect conditions for a stroll.

Not a huge amount happening in Wanganui this weekend, following the festivities of Waitangi Day down at Moutoa Gardens. There’s the opportunity to see some of New Zealand’s most promising brass band members in our own back yard though, and if you’re competing in next weekend’s Affco Imlay Triathlon, get some practice in at the Bridge to Bridge Swim on Saturday morning.

New Zealand born singer entertainer Paul Walden, with a musical career spanning more than 50 years, is alive and well on a lifestyle block in the Whanganui area, where he spent his early years.
Paul said he had enjoyed a full and active career, spending most of his adult life overseas, but he returned to his roots, the pull of the Whanganui River calling him. One of his CD’s is aptly named “The River”.
